Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (@MFAThai) and Twitter have joined forces to create a special emoji for the upcoming 35th ASEAN Summit and related summits, which are being held in Bangkok 31 October to 4 November and will live-stream key moments of #ASEANSummit 2019 on Twitter.
The custom emoji will support and drive healthy conversations on Twitter, as well as be a celebration of digital diplomacy. People on Twitter will be able to use the custom emoji to lead and join conversations around the #ASEAN2019 Summit. When Tweeting between 24 October and 14 November with the following hashtags, the emoji with be auto-generated: #ASEAN2019, #ASEANThailand, #ASEANSummit, #35ASEANSummit, #ASEAN2019TH or #THisASEAN.
The Emoji design is a malai, the circular shape of which represents the people of ASEAN. The ten “tassles” symbolise the ten ASEAN states striving together in “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability,” which is the theme of Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship.
To showcase the importance of the ASEAN region to a global audience, Bloomberg and Reuters will be sharing real-time updates on Twitter. As leading news partners, they recognize the need to be at the heart of the most important conversations in this region as they are happening.
The Thailand government (as the summit host) will also livestream and live-Tweet key summit activities. The closing ceremony, which will take place on 4 November, 19.30-20.00 pm Thailand time, will also be live-streamed on Twitter via @ASEAN2019TH account.
We are very proud to be working with Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and helping to raise awareness of, and celebrate the goals and accomplishments of ASEAN and its members. The unique emoji, hashtags and live-streaming will drive the conversation in real time and encourage others to join in that conversation.
People on Twitter shape what's happening around the world in real time. Whether live-Tweeting expert opinion and analysis, or interested members of the public joining in the conversation, #ASEANSummit 2019 will be happening in real time on Twitter.
