#ThisHappened in Canada 2019

2019 was a year of trends, trophies and triumphs for top Canadians on Twitter.

Whether it was music superstars cleaning up at award shows, or top teams cleaning up on the court, there was no shortage of topics that kept Canadians trending globally over the past 12 months.

• Bianca Andreescu (@Bandreescu_) was the Canadian athlete with the most account mentions in 2019. This was the first time a female has been the most mentioned Canadian athlete for a full calendar year. 
• Shawn Mendes (@ShawnMendes) was the Canadian musician with the most account mentions in 2019. This was a first for Mendes, besting past winners Drake (@Drake) and Justin Bieber (@JustinBieber).
• Ryan Reynolds (@VanCityReynolds) was the Canadian actor with the most account mentions in 2019. We’ve been tracking this category since 2016 and this is the third time in four years @VanCityReynolds has come out on top. 
• The Toronto Raptors (@Raptors) won the NBA championship for the first time in 2019 and were the Canadian sports team with the most account mentions for the second consecutive year.
