K-Pop sensations BTS (@BTS_twt) took Canadian Twitter by storm in 2018. The South Korean boy band was the most-mentioned Twitter account by Canadians in the past year, more than U.S. president Donald Trump or Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

Furthermore, our Twitter Canada Moments Tweet showing the groupexploring Niagara Falls was the most-liked Tweet sent by Twitter Canada in 2018.

Amongst individual entertainment personalities, actor/musician Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) was the most-mentioned talent on Twitter by Canadians in 2018. She edged out hip-hop star Kanye West (@kanyewest) and Toronto’s own Drake (@Drake) for those top honours.

Canadian Music in 2018

Buoyed by the June 2018 release of Scorpion and a series of high-profile concerts (and cancellations), Drake (@drake) dethroned Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) as the most-mentioned Canadian musician on Twitter for the year. 2018 also marks the first year that Shawn Mendes (@ShawnMendes) earned more Twitter mentions than Justin Bieber.

Montreal’s Grimes (@Grimessz) and Toronto’s Tory Lanez (@ToryLanez) also entered the Top 10 most-mentioned Canadian musician list for the first time.
