The Toronto Blue Jays (@BlueJays) have become one of Canada’s most popular Twitter accounts in recent years, buoyed by big moments on the field plus top content and personalities on the platform. Now, they’ve added a new honour to their Twitter trophy case, becoming the first professional sports team in Canada to reach 2 million followers.
The @BlueJays joined Twitter in May 2009 and have steadily been growing their following in the years since. The crossed 500,000 followers in November 2014 and 1 million in early October 2015, days before they battled the Texas Rangers (@Rangers) in the American League Division Series (#ALDS).
The @BlueJays join the New York Yankees (@Yankees) as the only teams in Major League Baseball (@MLB) with more than 2 million followers. They are also one of only four Canadian professional sports teams with more than 1 million followers.
