Twitter was the featured sponsor of the CODE2040 Summit 2016 in San Francisco July 29-31, 2016. CODE2040 is a nonprofit organization that creates pathways to educational, professional, and entrepreneurial success in technology for underrepresented minorities with a specific focus on Blacks and Latino/as. Twitter for Good volunteers helped register attendees during the kick-off reception on Friday night at Twitter HQ and helped throughout the entire weekend festivities.
Summit 2040 held a reverse job fair on Sunday. I met many extraordinary college students eager to enter into jobs in the tech world. They were smart, enthusiastic, articulate and very professional. Many students had resumes, business cards, lists of achievements on display and were ready to show me their projects and talk about their interest in technology careers. As an engineer, I was extremely impressed by the caliber of candidates that I met. They had engaging questions and were excited to learn about Twitter. Many students were not just interested in internships and entry level opportunities they hoped to make a connection with someone in industry for mentorship and guidance. It was very rewarding to talk with students about being a software engineer.
Everyone working in software should find some time to help an organization like CODE2040 inspire young people to explore opportunities in technology. Thank you, Twitter, for sponsoring this great event and encouraging your employees to participate!
