Safer Internet Day was first celebrated in 2004. This year we’re joining forces with our safety partners around the world for our most international Safer Internet Day to date. Together we’ll promote this year’s call to action: let’s create a better Internet together.
In 2014, we launched new user tools, improved our reporting mechanisms and enhanced user controls. We also established a number of partnerships with online safety experts around the world. Online safety continues to be a priority for us, and as social media and internet technology continues to evolve, the feedback these groups provide on a regular basis enables us to constantly innovate to provide a safe, secure and enjoyable environment for our users.
That’s why we’re excited to partner with the following groups and contribute to a number of international initiatives and events to mark the occasion: @uk_sic, @antibullyingpro, @childnet, @connectsafely, @acmadotgov, @Child_Wise, @netsafeNZ, @pantallasamigas, @safernet, @Webwise_Ireland and @SpunOut.
We’re starting the day by sharing a set of resources we’ve built that capture our Twitter Rules and Tools. You can access these materials here. Our guides are available in Arabic, English, Spanish, French, Bahasa Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Portuguese and Turkish. We’ll continue to localize them in more languages over the coming months.
We’re also featured in the Safer Internet Day TV program where we talk about the role we all play to make the internet a safe place. We share recommendations on how to stay safe on Twitter as well as join in the young experts and their initiative #Up2US to share a smile this #SID2015. We hosted the recording of the TV show in our @TwitterUK office and you can check out the Tweet below to get a sneak peek:
For those of you in Europe, @UK_SIC is joining us at our @TwitterUK office to host a live Twitter Q&A at 8 p.m. GMT, immediately following the Safer Internet Day TV show. Connect with them and join the Q&A using the hashtags #SIDTV, #SID2015 and #Up2Us.
We’ve also partnered with @ConnectSafely, @Webwise_Ireland, @spunout, @childnet, @pantallasamigas and @safernet through Ads for Good campaigns that will see their Safer Internet Day initiatives promoted through Twitter:
In addition, @Spunout is releasing a safety hub – a set of short easy guides to online safety, privacy and security. We’re excited to host the event that will see the launch of the Safety Hub today in our European HQ in Dublin. The SpunOut.ie Online Safety Hub endeavours help young people navigate online challenges with confidence and empower their peers by sharing the information on social media.
We look forward to helping and being a part of all these international initiatives and seeing people from around the world come together to build a safer internet together.
