April 2015 marks the three year anniversary of a major Twitter trend that’s now part of everyday Internet culture and mainstream vernacular: #TBT.

While there were Tweets mentioning “Throwback Thursday” in Twitter’s early days, April 2012 is when the hashtag #TBT began surpassing mentions of “Throwback Thursday,” cementing its status as a weekly Twitter tradition. In fact, in 2014 there were around half a million #TBT Tweets sent per week.

Now, each Thursday is an opportunity for folks to share and reflect on humorous, nostalgic and endearing moments from their past.
