This weekend, as San Diego fills with superheroes, sci-fi enthusiasts and fantastical characters, like-minded people will be Tweeting with fervent excitement and geeky passion for Comic-Con.
While many of the entertainment industry’s biggest players, real and fictional, flock to the San Diego Convention Center, you can experience the event wherever you are. Twitter, Vine and Periscope are your window into all things Comic-Con. Here are some of the highlights to watch for:
New #StarWars Twitter emojis
Star Wars aficionados, rejoice: On Friday, July 10, your favorite intergalactic saga will be featured on three new custom Twitter emojis. Starting at 9:30 a.m. PT, the special series of reveals will occur one by one throughout the day, concluding at 5:30 p.m. PT during a “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Hall H panel featuring Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams (@Bad_Robot), writer Lawrence Kasdan and other special guests. Be sure to follow @StarWars and @Bad_Robot on Friday and all weekend to see the emojis in action.
Ant-Man vending machine
Those intrepid souls attending Comic-Con in person will have the chance to win coveted Marvel-related swag, as Disney will have a Tweet-powered vending machine on-site in the Marvel booth at San Diego Comic-Con. Fans will be able to take a photo with a life-size Ant-Man and be encouraged to Tweet using the hashtag #AntmanSDCC with their photo attached in order to vend swag.
