Twitter served as a second home to the French Open

The French Tennis Open (@rolandgarros) came to an end yesterday after two weeks of intense competition, drama and legendary moments on the court, and also on Twitter.

While @MariaSharapova and @RafaelNadal confirmed how much they loved clay, several players turned to Twitter to offer their fans unique insights into their day-to-day lives during the tournament. And the amazing Twitter activations offered by @rolandgarros encouraged players and fans to join in on the conversation, whether they were in Paris, watching it on TV or out and about, checking their mobile devices.

Given the access players and organizers offered fans on Twitter, not to mention the intensity of the matches, it’s not surprising that the conversation around the French Tennis Open generated more than 3.2 million Tweets overall.

  2. @MariaSharapova’s women’s final victory
  3. @andy_murray’s victory over @gael_monfils in the quarterfinals

The men’s final between @RafaelNadal and @DjokerNole on June 8 generated more than 840,000 Tweets.

The three most tweeted about moments of the men’s final were:

  1. 6:46: p.m. CET (Paris): Rafael Nadal wins the fourth set and match
  2. 7:00 p.m. CET (Paris): An emotional awards ceremony takes place
  3. 5.00 p.m. CET (Paris): Rafael Nadal wins the second set to tie it up 1-1

Women’s final

The women’s final between @MariaSharapova and Simona Halep on June 7 generated more than 134,000 Tweets.

The three most tweeted about moments of the women’s final were:

  1. 6:17 p.m. CET (Paris): Maria Sharapova wins the last set of the match and her second Roland Garros
  2. 5:24 p.m. CET (Paris): Simona Halep takes the second set to tie it up 1-1
  3. 4:11 p.m. CET (Paris): Maria Sharapova wins the first set
