#OnlyOnTwitter: Fêtes and fashion

Other-worldly hats, sky-high heels, daring designs and strapping tuxedos: We’re seeing them all come to life on Twitter as partygoers and scenemakers strut their stuff at the hautest of events of the year so far.

Just in the past week, the Kentucky Derby, Met Costume Institute Gala, San Francisco Ballet and Chanel have lit up Twitter as celebrities tweeted and vined their chic, punk, classic or otherwise memorable garb.

No closet full of couture? No worries. Twitter can take you there.

The stars who received a coveted invitation didn’t hesitate to tweet live from the red carpet and from inside the Metropolitan Museum:

Meanwhile, at the 2013 Kentucky Derby last weekend, Orb was the star on the track, but the millinery took first place on the Churchill Downs red carpet. Racing enthusiasts stopped at the Twitter mirror hosted by @NBCSN to show off their frocks and pick their horses:

Even those watching from home joined the fray, fashioning and tweeting their own daring hats for the occasion:

On the same day out west, balletophiles commemorated San Francisco Ballet’s premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s (@wheeldondance) Cinderella with a ball, complete with a Twitter mirror sending behind-the-scenes Tweets from the fest (even after the clock struck midnight):

And à Paris, Chanel used a Twitter Mirror at their #n5culturechanel exhibition opening.
