Twitter is the best place to know what's happening around the world and in India, it's monsoon season time. Beyond the usual weather updates and traffic statuses, people in India will share their monsoon moments of music, food, and fun memories on Twitter. This year, we are excited to launch a special Twitter emoji for the monsoon that Indians can use to express their emotions. When people Tweet using #Monsoon2017, #Monsoon, #IndiaRains, #Baarish, #बारिश #MumbaiRains, #DelhiRains, #BengaluruRains #HyderabadRains, #ChennaiRains and #AhmedabadRains, a bright blue umbrella will appear next to the hashtag. The emoji goes live today and will be active until 31st August 2017.
Kicking off the monsoon conversation with a drizzle of fun, @MumbaiPolice shares relationship advice with the emoji #MumbaiRains, while Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis (@Dev_Fadnavis), wishes the people a happy and safe monsoon with #IndiaRains. If singing in the rain is your thing, @RadioCityIndia is asking people for their favourite #Baarish song, while @Saavn invites recommendations of people's favourite monsoon tunes on Twitter to put together a Twitter Monsoon Mix playlist. In addition, people can keep up with the latest weather updates by following @SkymetWeather as they share monsoon videos across the country.
We are also planning a few collaborations with @PenguinIndia and @SaranshGoila to make the monsoon season even more enjoyable.
This is the first weather-related emoji that we are launching in India, and Tweets about monsoon rains have already started flooding the Twitter timelines:
In the past, we have celebrated the local culture with customised emojis for significant moments such as Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Independence Day, Republic Day, International Day of Yoga and Ambedkar Jayanti. For more monsoon video updates, follow @TwitterVideoIN.
