Twitter shows what’s happening in the world. And often #LoveHappens on Twitter. In the last year, people Tweeted the word “love” more than 2.5 billion times globally. That’s a lot of love.

Virat Kohli’s (@imVkohli) Tweet in support of Anushka Sharma (@AnushkaSharma) was the Most ❤️ ‘d Tweet in 2016, in addition to being the Golden Tweet of 2016 in India. He encouraged his fans and critics, who attributed his outstanding performance in the ICC World T20 to their break-up, to be compassionate. It’s a prime example of an inspirational icon expressing his love by standing up for the woman in his life and encouraging other men to do the same.

Pranav Sapra (@PranavSapra) & Sakshi Bawa (@Square_boxes) met on Twitter, fell in love and got married too! As part of the Modern Romance category in Twitter’s weeklong celebration of creators with #EveryCharacterMatters, they asked users to tell them one thing about themselves and their crush, and came up with pickup lines. They shared their Twitter love story, and gave relationship tips.

Seven-year-old Bana al-Abed gained hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers for Tweeting from besieged eastern Aleppo. Bana’s account was set up in September 2016 and brought the world together to Tweet their support for the people of Aleppo.

Bana has since been safely evacuated and is using her account to remind everyone that love is greater than hate.
