With 70% of Internet traffic on mobile, India is an exciting place for developers and entrepreneurs. As one of the fastest growing markets for mobile apps in the world, India currently has around 300,000 app developers (source: Deloitte India’s TMT Predictions 2015 Report), and already the second largest Android developer community in the world after the US.
Annual mobile app downloads for Asia Pacific to increase from 58.5 billion in 2016 to 162.2 billion in 2020. According to’s Mobile App Forecast, India will be a significant contributor to download growth thanks to the influx of capable smartphones priced below $50, boosting smartphone adoption.

On Tuesday, we brought our Asia’s first #HelloWorld developer tour to the vibrant marketplace of India. Participants gathered in Bangalore to connect with our developer team and learn from success stories of top local companies using Fabric, such as DailyHunt (@DailyhuntApp) and Practo (@practo).

Arvinder Gujral (@ArvinderGujral), Sr. Director of Business Development, APAC, Twitter kicked off the event and spoke about the thriving developer community in India and Twitter’s mission to help developers through the Fabric platform and on their mobile app development journey. He also looked back at the growing popularity of Fabric in India by highlighting the fact that based on App Annie data, of the Top 100 most downloaded Apps in the last 12 months that are made in India, more than 65% use the Fabric platform.

Ali Parr (@AliParr), our head of platform partnerships international, took the crowd through the journey of Fabric right since it was launched in 2014 and set the context for current developments and the future of Fabric. Ali highlighted the importance of Crashlytics in building a stable application and elaborated on how Answers gives businesses in-depth data on audience insights and opinions. He also threw light on Fabric’s latest features including recent updates to Fastlane, Unity Integration.

He spoke of our milestone announcement around Fabric this week: Fabric is now serving over 2 billion active devices, and announced eight new partners to the Fabric toolset to help developers solve key challenges within mobile development.

Felix Krause, software engineer, Twitter and founder of Fastlane, shared information about Twitter’s recent acquisition of Fastlane to streamline the entire app deployment process.

Local Indian app developers took centre stage to share how they’re using Fabric to reach wider audiences and enhance their offering.
