Wherever you come from, whatever your team, and whichever sports you love, you can get closer to the action at this summer’s Commonwealth Games with Twitter.

Hosted by @Glasgow2014, the Games start today, with nearly 5000 athletes in total from 71 participating nations, with India having a presence of more than 200.

Exciting times, and even the Prime Minister (@narendramodi) got in on the act, tweeting to wish the contingent ahead of the start:

Meanwhile, Indian athletes have been enjoying their time at the venue in the lead up to Games, sharing thoughts and photos from behind the scenes, like this one from Indian squash player Dipika Pallikal (@dipikapallikal) before the Opening Ceremony last night:

And with two exciting installations inside the Athletes’ Village, Twitter will get you closer to them than ever before.

The Vine 360 Booth is bringing the Games to life in six-second videos of the participants; follow along with @TweetCam2014. Check out this one involving Indian boxer Amritpreet Singh.

@UNICEF will also give people a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on the Games with @TwitterMirror, showing athletes during their down time.

The organisers will be displaying Tweets on the big screens at the venues for the athletics, cycling, gymnastics, rugby, hockey and netball.

A real-time social hub, produced especially for the Games by @Stackla, will pull together a selection of great Tweets from the Games on the @Glasgow2014 website.
