HRH Prince Harry sends his first Tweet in support of @InvictusLondon

Today, HRH Prince Harry sent his first ever Tweet as he celebrated the forthcoming Invictus Games (@InvictusLondon), which come to London this September:

He was attending a press event at the top of London’s @bttowerlondon, where he spoke to media about the Games before tweeting:

Inspired by the Warrior Games in the US, @InvictusLondon will take place from 10-14 September at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with more than 300 wounded, injured and sick Servicemen taking part. The Tweet from the Prince was followed by a Twitter Q&A with athletes hoping to take part in the games.

Whilst today’s message made him the most senior royal to send a Tweet, Prince Harry isn’t the first member of monarchy to make use of Twitter. The Royal Family have a strong presence on the platform — both Prince Andrew (@TheDukeOfYork) and Princess Beatrice (@yorkiebea) have their own accounts. And official accounts such as @ClarenceHouse and @BritishMonarchy provide regular updates about the work and activities of the Royal Family for followers around the globe.

During the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s recent tour of Australia and New Zealand, the @ClarenceHouse account was used to document their travels, providing intimate photos and engaging with those who had met the couple and their son, HRH Prince George of Cambridge:

And last summer, the royal household used the platform to celebrate the birth of baby George, posting a message on Twitter to confirm news of his birth and his name.
