Twitter lit up Monday morning as the royal family shared that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their second child.

With 260,000 Tweets sent throughout the day about the big announcement, #RoyalBaby began trending around the world with more than 70,000 uses of the hashtag. This visualisation from @TwitterReverb shows how the #RoyalBaby news spread:

Among the Tweets sharing the breaking news and congratulating the royal couple, several came from brands. One of the fastest to offer its congratulations was @NissanUK. Should the Duchess find herself expecting more than one child, @NissanUK was confident that its Nissan X-Trail seven-seater would be up to the royal need for seating:

And @forduk had an alternate suggestion for future motoring options:

Many brands, including @marksandspencer and @Debenhams, were quick to offer William and Kate their congratulations, keeping their messages simple:

@ASOS was among those that had some fashion suggestions for the Duchess of Cambridge, whilst @riverisland considered potential outfits for the new arrival:

The question many found themselves asking is, of course, boy or girl?

There were more baby name suggestions from @innocentdrinks and @PizzaExpress, which kept to what it knows best:

With so many Tweets flowing about the coming new #RoyalBaby, one thing is certain – as @innocentdrinks pointed out, it will be a topic of conversation on Twitter in upcoming months:
