Eurovision 2014: Tune in with Twitter

The final of the Eurovision song contest takes place this Saturday evening, and for fans of the spectacle Twitter has become the place to go to experience the TV event in its full glory.

Last year’s final generated more than 3.76 million Tweets across Europe, making it the most tweeted-about TV show of 2013 (excluding sport).

The team behind @Eurovision have embraced Twitter more than ever this year, building excitement ahead of the live shows with news and updates and behind-the-scenes, content-rich images and Vine videos.

Fans have also had the chance to get involved with #AskEurovision Q&As, alongside calls for people to tweet their own ideas with the hashtag #MyEurovisionidea:

Excitement around this weekend’s show is already under way. The two semi-finals broadcast this week generated more than half a million Tweets each, and counting.

The UK does not have to take part in the semi-finals since they automatically qualify. However, the reaction on Twitter to the semi-finals has given Eurovision fans a flavour of what’s to come. The most tweeted about moments of Tuesday’s final came as Iceland’s entry @Pollaponk took to the stage, generating more than 7,000 Tweets per minute.
