Creative storytelling has always found a natural home on Twitter, and authors around the world enjoy using the platform to share ideas and connect with their readers. With Twitter’s new app, Periscope, people can get even closer — taking part in a live video broadcast from a writer who may be on the other side of the world.
Recently, Twitter and publisher Hachette UK launched a broadcast initiative called #WhereIWrite. The series works to a simple premise: Every day a different writer shows us where they write and then delivers a short reading from their writing desk.
From 1 June , it’s Hachette Australia and New Zealand’s turn. Every day for two weeks, one of Australia’s wonderful authors will be broadcasting live from the place where they write - giving people a view into their creative space and reading from their current novel or a work in progress.
To join in live, download the Periscope app from the App Store and Google Play Store and follow your favourite authors. Periscope will alert you when the authors are broadcasting live so you can tune in and take part. Use the hashtag #WhereIWrite to join the conversation on Twitter.
Once the videos are made, they are kept and collected on www.whereiwrite.tv.
“This series of live video broadcasts will bring readers closer to their favourite authors — throwing light on lots of personal details about where, how and what they write. We are delighted to be in at the very beginning and look forward to working with Twitter as Periscope evolves.” — Justin Ractliffe, Hachette Australia’s Managing Director: Marketing, Publicity & Australian Publishing.
Pamela Hart (@pamelahartbooks) author of “The Soldier’s Wife” kicked off the #WhereIWrite series today.
Next up will be A.L. Tait (@altait), author of The #MapmakerChronicles, will be live from 11.30am Tuesday 2 June.
