From GoPro cameras and drones to 360 cameras and other external sources, we are passionate about giving people the tools they need to create compelling, interactive live videos. Last fall, we announced Periscope Producer which allows broadcasters to connect external devices such as professional cameras and production software to Periscope, and have seen incredible high-quality live video from partners like Bloomberg, Dior, PBS NewsHour and WildEarth. The amount of broadcasts using Periscope Producer to share high-quality, produced live content on Periscope and Twitter has continued to grow; since launch, we’ve seen the total number of Producer broadcasts nearly double quarter over quarter.
Today, we’re announcing the Periscope Producer API, which opens up new ways to share live video, such as starting broadcasts directly from external hardware, software, cameras and web services - without the need to connect them via the app. The API enables third-party applications to authenticate Periscope accounts, configure streams, start and stop broadcasts and publish broadcasts to Twitter.
A number of beta partners are already creating new ways to integrate live video and other data from Periscope:
Additional launch partners include Brandlive, Giroptic iO 360, Grabyo, LiveU Solo, Make.tv, NewTek, Telescope, and Vidpresso. We’ll continue to add functionality to the API, and are excited to see what you create. To apply for access to our private beta, visit here.
